Fresh details have emerged following the death of Accra-based phone dealer Nana Yaw Kyere, popularly known as Terry or Dinero, whose disappearance after travelling to Teshie has triggered a police investigation.
Kyere was reported missing after travelling to the Teshie area on September 20, reportedly in connection with a meeting. His body was later discovered on September 24, prompting renewed questions about the circumstances surrounding his final movements.
A man identified as Philip Tefe, described in reports as a suspect in the case, has now spoken publicly for the first time. His account comes as investigators continue examining the events that led to the phone dealer’s death.
Suspect reportedly questioned by police
Reports circulating about the case say Tefe has been questioned by investigators over his alleged involvement in Kyere’s death.
According to an account attributed to a close friend of the deceased, the suspect allegedly provided information to police that helped investigators locate Kyere’s body.
However, details surrounding the alleged confession and the exact role of the suspect remain matters for investigators to establish. The allegations should therefore not be treated as a court-established finding of guilt.
How Kyere’s disappearance began
Kyere reportedly travelled to Teshie on Sunday, September 20, after making arrangements to meet someone in the area.
Before contact with him was lost, he communicated with a friend through WhatsApp. Reports say he expressed concern that he had been set up and shared his location with the friend.
The location was subsequently deleted from the conversation, adding to concerns among those close to him.
When Kyere failed to return or respond to further messages, family members and friends began searching for him.
Body discovered days after disappearance
After several days of uncertainty, Kyere’s body was found in Teshie on September 24.
Reports indicate that police subsequently recovered his Honda Civic, which had reportedly been taken to a mechanic’s workshop.
The mechanic allegedly became suspicious after noticing that the vehicle matched descriptions circulating online in connection with the missing phone dealer. Police were contacted and the vehicle was taken for further investigation.
A separate report also alleged that an attempt had been made to burn Kyere’s body before it was concealed. That detail has not been independently established and remains part of reports surrounding the investigation.
Suspects arrested
At least two suspects have reportedly been arrested in connection with the case, including a man alleged to have posed as a soldier and a woman.
Other reports have put the number of people detained at three as investigators attempt to establish what happened to Kyere and determine whether others were involved.
The suspects are reportedly assisting investigators as police work to piece together Kyere’s final movements.
His body has also reportedly been taken for an autopsy, which could provide important evidence concerning the cause and circumstances of his death.
Family and friends seek answers
Kyere’s death has generated concern among relatives, friends and members of Ghana’s phone-trading community.
His disappearance had prompted an online search effort before news of his death emerged, with people sharing information about his movements and vehicle in an attempt to locate him.
The case has also renewed conversations about personal safety when meeting strangers or conducting private business transactions.
Police investigation continues
Authorities are expected to continue examining evidence gathered from the location where Kyere was found, his vehicle, digital communications and statements from the suspects and witnesses.
Investigators will also have to determine the identities and roles of everyone connected to the case.
While several accounts have emerged publicly, important questions remain unanswered, including the precise circumstances of Kyere’s death and what happened between his arrival in Teshie and the discovery of his body.
Until police and the courts establish the facts, allegations surrounding individual suspects remain unproven.
The death of Nana Yaw Kyere has nevertheless left his family, friends and colleagues demanding answers as the investigation continues.
