Royal Air Maroc to Install Starlink Wi-Fi on 41 Aircraft From 2027

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is set to upgrade its inflight services by introducing high-speed Starlink internet on 41 aircraft beginning in 2027.

The Moroccan national airline said the installation will be carried out gradually from early next year as part of a broader effort to modernise its fleet and improve the experience of passengers travelling on its growing network.

Under the arrangement, passengers flying on equipped aircraft will have access to fast internet connectivity through Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX. Members of RAM’s Safar Flyer loyalty programme will be able to use the service at no additional cost.

The airline said the rollout will make Royal Air Maroc the first African carrier to introduce Starlink connectivity on its aircraft.

Faster Internet in the Sky

Unlike traditional inflight internet systems, Starlink relies on a network of satellites operating in low Earth orbit. The technology is designed to deliver high speeds and lower latency, making it possible for passengers to carry out activities that can be difficult with conventional aircraft Wi-Fi.

Once the system is installed, travellers will be able to browse the internet, communicate online, stream content and carry out work while in the air.

For business travellers and passengers who need to remain connected during long journeys, the service could represent a major improvement over slower or less reliable onboard internet systems.

Starlink has already expanded into the aviation industry and provides inflight connectivity for airlines in several international markets, including carriers within the Air France and Lufthansa groups.

Installation to Begin in Early 2027

Royal Air Maroc plans to introduce the technology in phases rather than equip all 41 aircraft simultaneously.

The gradual approach is intended to allow the airline to maintain normal operations while the necessary equipment is installed and certified across the selected aircraft.

The project is part of RAM’s wider transformation programme, which includes renewing its fleet, upgrading aircraft cabins and improving services available to passengers both at airports and onboard.

The airline has been expanding its fleet as it seeks to strengthen its position as a major aviation hub linking Morocco with destinations across Africa, Europe and other international markets.

RAM reported having more than 70 aircraft in its fleet by the end of September, highlighting the scale of its ongoing expansion and modernisation programme.

Boost for African Aviation

The Starlink agreement also gives Royal Air Maroc an opportunity to position itself as a technology leader in Africa’s aviation sector.

The airline’s decision comes at a time when reliable internet access has become an increasingly important part of the passenger experience. Travellers now expect to remain connected for work, entertainment, communication and other digital services even while flying.

For Morocco, the initiative could also strengthen Royal Air Maroc’s appeal to international travellers using the country’s aviation network as a gateway between Europe, Africa and other regions.

The airline said the introduction of Starlink is aimed at meeting changing passenger expectations while supporting its broader strategy of improving service quality.

With installations scheduled to begin in 2027, passengers can expect the new connectivity service to become increasingly available as more aircraft receive the technology.

The move places Royal Air Maroc among a growing group of airlines turning to satellite-based internet to transform the inflight experience and represents another step in the Moroccan carrier’s efforts to modernise its operations.
