Silver Strikers Ladies Face Two FAM Charges After Civil Service Women Defeat

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has launched disciplinary proceedings against Silver Strikers Ladies following an alleged incident involving match officials after their NBM Women’s Premiership meeting with Civil Service Women.

The case stems from the fixture played at Silver Stadium on October 17, 2026. According to the association, a supporter wearing Silver Strikers colours allegedly threw a bottle of water towards match officials as they walked towards the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms after the final whistle.

FAM’s Competitions Committee formally notified the club of two misconduct charges in a document dated October 21. The allegations concern the conduct of supporters and the club’s responsibility to maintain order and security at the stadium.

Silver Strikers Ladies have been given 48 hours from the time they received the notification to submit a written explanation, together with any evidence or mitigating circumstances they want the committee to consider.

The case places the Lilongwe-based club under scrutiny over match-day safety and the responsibility football teams have to protect officials, players and spectators.

FAM Outlines Two Alleged Breaches of Competition Rules

The first charge relates to the alleged throwing of an object at match officials. FAM is pursuing the matter under Article 29.1, read together with Articles 29.1.1 and 29.9.1 of the NBM Women’s Premiership Rules and Regulations.

The second charge concerns the alleged failure to maintain order and security at the venue after the match. This allegation falls under Article 29.6 of the competition’s regulations.

According to the association, the alleged incident created a risk of physical harm to officials as they made their way towards the dressing rooms.

The two charges address different aspects of the incident. One focuses on the alleged behaviour of a supporter, while the other examines whether the club fulfilled its responsibilities for security and order at its home ground.

FAM has not yet announced a final decision on either allegation. Silver Strikers Ladies have the opportunity to respond before the Competitions Committee determines how the matter should proceed.

Incident Followed Civil Service Women Clash

The incident occurred after Silver Strikers Ladies hosted Civil Service Women in a fourth-round fixture of the 2026/27 NBM Women’s Premiership.

Civil Service Women won the match 3–2 at Silver Stadium on October 17, handing the home side a narrow defeat in a competitive encounter.

The fixture had attracted attention as a meeting between two prominent teams in Malawi’s women’s league. Silver Strikers Ladies entered the match among the early contenders, while Civil Service Women were seeking to strengthen their position in the standings.

However, the post-match allegations have shifted attention away from the result and towards the safety of match officials.

FAM’s account specifically concerns an alleged incident as the officials were heading into the tunnel after the game. The association has not identified the alleged supporter in the published charge details, and the allegations against the club remain subject to the disciplinary process.
