Air Côte d’Ivoire and Air France Launch Paris–Abidjan Codeshare on October 25

Air Côte d’Ivoire and Air France are strengthening their partnership with a reciprocal codeshare agreement on the Paris–Abidjan route, giving travellers more options when booking flights between France and Côte d’Ivoire.

The arrangement takes effect on October 25, 2026, allowing both airlines to sell selected flights operated by the other carrier under their own airline codes. Air France will market flights operated by Air Côte d’Ivoire, while the Ivorian airline will also sell Air France-operated services under its code.

The partnership is designed to make travel planning more flexible by combining the flight schedules of the two airlines. It could also improve access to Abidjan for international passengers using Air France’s wider network.

The agreement marks another step in the long-running relationship between the two carriers, which has included Air France’s role as a shareholder and strategic partner of Air Côte d’Ivoire since the Ivorian airline was established in 2012.

More Flight Options Between Paris and Abidjan

The new codeshare arrangement will allow passengers to find flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport and Abidjan’s Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport through either airline’s sales channels.

Codesharing is a common practice in the aviation industry. It allows one airline to sell seats on a flight operated by another carrier, with the service listed under the selling airline’s flight number.

For passengers, the main potential benefit is greater choice when comparing schedules and making bookings. The agreement brings the two airlines’ flight offerings together on a key route connecting Europe with West Africa.

The arrangement does not mean that every flight will be operated jointly. The airline actually operating a particular service will remain responsible for flying the aircraft, while the partner may market seats under its own code.

The companies expect the expanded commercial cooperation to support travel for business passengers, tourists and people visiting relatives between France and Côte d’Ivoire.

Partnership Builds on More Than a Decade of Cooperation

The agreement builds on a relationship that dates back to the creation of Air Côte d’Ivoire in 2012, when Air France became a shareholder and strategic partner of the Ivorian carrier.

The latest deal reflects both airlines’ interest in strengthening connections between France and Côte d’Ivoire, where demand for travel includes tourism, business activity and family visits.

For Air Côte d’Ivoire, the arrangement offers a way to promote its flights through Air France’s international sales network. The airline hopes this will help travellers from additional markets connect with Abidjan and other destinations in Côte d’Ivoire.

Air France, meanwhile, will be able to market flights operated by its Ivorian partner, broadening the range of services it can offer on the Paris–Abidjan corridor.

The airlines have also indicated that their cooperation could extend to additional destinations across Air France’s network before the end of the first half of 2027. The expansion is expected to build on the initial agreement covering the Paris–Abidjan route.

Flying Blue and sMiles Loyalty Programmes to Be Linked

Beyond flight bookings, Air France and Air Côte d’Ivoire are preparing to bring their frequent-flyer programmes closer together.

The planned arrangement will connect Air France’s Flying Blue programme with Air Côte d’Ivoire’s sMiles scheme, with the launch expected before the end of 2026.

Under the announced plans, sMiles members will be able to earn miles on Air France-operated flights between Paris and Abidjan, with the possibility of redeeming them across Air France’s wider network at a later stage.

Flying Blue members will, in turn, be able to earn and use miles on flights operated by Air Côte d’Ivoire between the two cities.

The move is intended to give frequent travellers more value from their journeys and make the two airlines’ services more convenient to use together. The practical benefits will depend on the final programme rules and the services available when the arrangement launches.

What the Deal Means for Côte d’Ivoire’s Aviation Sector

The codeshare agreement could strengthen Abidjan’s role as an international travel gateway for Côte d’Ivoire and the wider West African region.

Improved access to airline booking networks can help a destination reach more potential visitors, including tourists, business travellers and investors. It can also make it easier for passengers to plan journeys involving different airlines.

For Côte d’Ivoire, stronger air links with France are relevant to tourism, trade and commercial relationships. France remains an important connection for travel between Europe and the country, while Abidjan serves as a major business centre in West Africa.

However, the agreement does not automatically guarantee lower ticket prices or additional aircraft. Its immediate purpose is to allow the airlines to market selected flights under both brands and combine their offerings on the route.

The planned expansion to other destinations and the alignment of loyalty programmes will be important next steps in determining how much additional value passengers receive.

Outlook: Air France and Air Côte d’Ivoire Deepen Their Partnership

The October 25 launch marks a new phase in cooperation between Air France and Air Côte d’Ivoire.

By combining their flight sales on the Paris–Abidjan route, the carriers aim to provide travellers with more scheduling options and broader access to their respective networks. Plans to connect their frequent-flyer programmes and extend cooperation to additional destinations could further strengthen the relationship.

For passengers, the key development is the ability to book eligible flights through either airline, even when the service is operated by the partner carrier.

The longer-term impact will depend on how the airlines implement the agreement, which additional destinations are included and how the loyalty benefits develop.

For now, the codeshare arrangement represents a strategic move to improve air connectivity between France and Côte d’Ivoire while deepening a partnership that has been in place since 2012.
