Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Mother Dies at 88 as LoveWorld Mourns

The LoveWorld community is mourning the death of Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, mother of the founder and president of LoveWorld Incorporated, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

Deaconess Angel, affectionately known as “Big Mummy” within the ministry, died at the age of 88. She passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, according to reports and a subsequent announcement by her son.

Her death has prompted tributes from members of the Christ Embassy, also known as LoveWorld, as well as people who knew and respected her through her association with the ministry.

Pastor Chris announces mother’s death

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome announced his mother’s passing during the closing session of the 27th edition of the Global Day of Prayer.

While reflecting on her life, the cleric spoke about the important role she played in his upbringing and the development of his Christian faith.

He said his mother spent her final weeks surrounded by her children and loved ones before she died on Friday morning.

Rather than focusing solely on grief, Pastor Chris used the occasion to express gratitude for the years he shared with his mother and the lessons she passed on to him and his siblings.

He recalled how he had made a conscious effort in recent years to thank her for the values she instilled in him, including discipline, personal responsibility and Christian teachings.

According to reports of his remarks, Pastor Chris said his parents created a home where their children were introduced to Christianity and encouraged to live according to biblical principles.

Deaconess Angel’s role in LoveWorld

Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome was regarded as an important figure within the LoveWorld family and was widely known as the mother of Pastor Chris.

She was born on March 6, 1938, and was married to the late Tim E. Oyakhilome. Their marriage produced seven children, including Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Reverend Ken Oyakhilome and Pastor Linda Okocha.

Until her death, she was based in Benin City, Edo State, and remained closely connected with the LoveWorld community.

Her 88th birthday was celebrated by members of the ministry in March 2026, with prayers and goodwill messages in recognition of her life and influence.

She had also previously received special recognition for her contribution and support to the growth of LoveWorld Nation.

Pastor Chris remembers his mother

In his tribute, Pastor Chris described his mother in affectionate terms and reflected on the impact she had on his life.

He recalled being taught basic personal habits as a child, but placed particular emphasis on the Christian foundation established by his parents.

The LoveWorld founder also spoke about his physical resemblance to his mother, noting that members of his family had often commented that he looked like her.

Funeral arrangements yet to be announced

Following Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome’s death, attention has now turned to arrangements for her final rites.

Pastor Chris said details concerning the funeral would be communicated later, as the family had not yet finalised the arrangements.

Her death marks the loss of a prominent matriarch within the Oyakhilome family and a respected elder associated with the LoveWorld community.
