Morocco Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms and Hail Expected in Several Regions

Morocco is expected to experience unsettled weather in several parts of the country, with thunderstorms, possible hail and strong wind gusts forecast in mountainous and southeastern areas, according to the country’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).

The weather forecast issued for Sunday, October 11, 2026, also points to falling temperatures in the Eastern region, the Middle Atlas and parts of southeastern Morocco. Meanwhile, some southern areas are expected to remain relatively warm, with daytime temperatures reaching 33°C.

The forecast comes as Morocco experiences changing weather conditions, with thunderstorms and rainfall affecting parts of the country after an unusually hot September.
According to the meteorological service, the risk of thunderstorms and localised hail is greatest across sections of the Atlas Mountains, neighbouring western areas, the eastern highlands and southeastern regions.
Residents in affected areas are advised to monitor official weather updates, particularly where thunderstorms could bring sudden changes in conditions.

Atlas Mountains and Southeastern Areas Face Thunderstorm Risk

The DGM expects thunderstorms to develop across several parts of Morocco, particularly in mountainous areas and regions bordering the Atlas range.
Some locations could experience hail alongside thunderstorms, while strong wind gusts may accompany the unsettled weather. The eastern highlands and southeastern parts of the country are also included in the forecast for potentially stormy conditions.

Thunderstorms can develop quickly and may produce intense rainfall over short periods, creating difficult conditions for motorists and people travelling through mountainous areas.
In locations where heavy rain occurs, water may accumulate on roads and low-lying ground. Hail and strong winds can also disrupt outdoor activities and reduce driving visibility.Although the forecast does not mean every affected area will experience severe weather, residents are encouraged to remain alert to changes in local conditions.

Northern Morocco Could Experience Scattered Showers

While thunderstorms are expected in several regions, other parts of Morocco are forecast to experience a mixture of clear and cloudy skies.
The Rif region and the northern and central Atlantic plains are expected to see partly cloudy conditions, with the possibility of occasional showers in some locations.
Low clouds and patches of fog may also develop along sections of the Atlantic coastline, particularly during the early morning and nighttime hours.
These conditions could reduce visibility for drivers, especially along coastal roads and routes near low-lying areas.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling through foggy locations and to allow additional time for journeys if visibility deteriorates.
The weather pattern reflects a contrast between areas facing a risk of thunderstorms and other regions expected to experience comparatively mild conditions.

Strong Winds and Dust Expected in Southern Provinces

The DGM has also forecast moderate to fairly strong wind gusts in Morocco’s Saharan provinces.
The winds could raise dust in some locations, potentially reducing visibility and affecting road travel.
Dusty conditions may be particularly challenging for drivers travelling through exposed desert areas, where strong gusts can cause sudden reductions in visibility.
Residents and travellers in the affected regions should follow local weather updates and take appropriate precautions when conditions become difficult.
The forecast also indicates that temperatures will vary considerably across the country, with cooler conditions in the mountains and relatively high daytime temperatures in parts of the south.

Temperatures Set to Fall in Eastern and Mountain Regions

Temperatures are expected to decline in Morocco’s Eastern region, the Middle Atlas and southeastern areas, while much of the rest of the country will experience relatively stable temperatures or slight increases.
Minimum temperatures in the Atlas Mountains and Rif are forecast to range between 2°C and 8°C.
The Eastern region and southeastern areas are expected to record overnight lows of between 10°C and 15°C, while minimum temperatures elsewhere will generally range from 15°C to 21°C.
Despite the cooler conditions in some areas, several cities and southern locations are expected to record daytime highs above 25°C.
The forecast highlights the substantial temperature differences between Morocco’s mountainous interior, coastal areas and southern provinces.

According to the DGM forecast for Sunday, October 11:
– Aousserd: Maximum temperature of 33°C.
– Es-Semara: Maximum temperature of 31°C.

Mountain destinations are expected to remain cooler. Ifrane is forecast to record temperatures between 7°C and 16°C, while Midelt is expected to experience temperatures ranging from 12°C to 19°C.
These figures are forecasts rather than confirmed observations, and actual temperatures may vary.

Sea Conditions Expected to Remain Relatively Calm in Some Areas

The meteorological service also provided an outlook for coastal and maritime conditions.
The Mediterranean coast, the Strait of Gibraltar and waters north of Mehdia are expected to experience calm to slight sea conditions.
Further south, the sea is forecast to become slightly to moderately rough.
Although conditions are expected to remain relatively manageable in some coastal areas, people planning maritime activities should consult updated local forecasts before travelling.

Residents Urged to Follow Weather Updates
The forecast highlights the importance of monitoring changing weather conditions across Morocco, particularly in regions where thunderstorms, hail and strong winds are expected.
People travelling through mountainous areas should remain alert to sudden rainfall and reduced visibility. Residents in southern provinces should also be mindful of dust raised by strong winds.
The combination of cooler temperatures in some regions and warmer conditions elsewhere demonstrates the varied weather expected across the country.

As the forecast period progresses, updated information from the General Directorate of Meteorology will provide a clearer picture of where the strongest storms develop and whether conditions change.
For residents, motorists and travellers, staying informed about local weather alerts remains an important precaution during periods of unsettled weather.
